Remember back in early 2001, when things were tense with China? (Seems like a very long time ago...) That's when I declared we were finally getting into a cyberpunk future, and very little since then has made me want to rescind the claim. It's pretty cool and all, but every now and then I miss the old futures. Confused 80s NTSC futures, swinger 70s futures, humanistic new wave futures, golden age futures, victorian futures.

In light of this, I was very happy to see a Scientific American article on X-ray Proofing. That's right, radiation-proof fabric. Finally some classic golden age news, right out of the Lensman books or Venus Equilateral. [livejournal.com profile] midint needs to get a sample for testing, oh yes.

You can thank [livejournal.com profile] quidditas for this one: Roy-Orbison-being-wrapped-in-clingfilm fics. (If there is a standard abbreviation for such things, I don't really want to know about it.)

I don't think I've laughed like this since The Misery Senshi Neo-Zero Double Blitzkrieg Debacle misting.
