I've been trying to take delivery of a UPS package (our shiny new printer) for three days now. I missed it friday because I stopped for a cinnabon on the way back from the airport. Yesterday I missed it because the wireless doorbell failed silently.

I'm not taking any risks today, the third and final delivery attempt. I changed the batteries in the wireless doorbell. I put a note out front assuring that we are open. And I just set up a wireless x-10 camera to monitor the approach. If only I had time to rig my sonar module to detect people standing in front of the door. I could make a boo-boop-boo-boop-they're-right-in-front-of-us-man-this-can't-be-happening interface for the VJ.

So the new printer is up and working, though I can't get the black cartridge to align exactly properly. But it does print and scan and copy and probably fax, if I had a long enough phone cord.

As a test, I scanned a fantasy world map that I drew in 4th or 5th grade. I found it recently while digging through storage looking for my Space Shuttle Operator's Manual. It's pretty silly and obviously influenced by Tolkein almost to the point of plagiarism. (To be fair, in my 4th grade Tolkein was pretty obscure reference.) I made it not long after being introduced to the idea of role playing games, which were just wicked cool. The fact that my grandmother was concerned about them only made it better, of course. The combined image is here. Be warned that he image is about 2megs total. The map covered three pages taped together in a backward 'L' shape, so you'll have to pan the image in order to see anything.

While I'm making a post, I saw a great warning icon on the side of a Qwestmobile yesterday. It is... very Rube Goldberg. I think it needs a Ped Xing roadrunner in the background.
