The film contest is this coming weekend. If you're in the Seattle area and willing to help out -- particularly if you're willing to be in the movie -- let me know. Filming should only be a few hours on Saturday; most of the work will be editing. Have I mentioned there is a chance this will quality the film to go into IMDB? Have I mentioned I'm very liberal with credits? This could be your big chance to get an IMDB credit! The contest entries will be shown and winners announced the following sunday, September 29, 6:15-8:00pm in the Port Townsend Film Festival.
When do you think people will stop asking for separate day and evening phone numbers? Or will they just add a 'mobile' option.
I've wanted to build a small liquid fuel rocket engine for some time now. Unfortunately the lathe isn't big enough for the designs I've seen, nor really accurate enough for projects that big. This morning in the shower I was struck by a thought: how small can one make a liquid fuel engine? It was never meant to be launched, so having a teeny-tiny combustion chamber completely dwarfed by the test stand, fuel tanks and control equipment isn't an issue. In fact, I bet it would be pretty cute. The only feature I really care about is the chance to see mach (or shock) diamonds in the exhaust. I'm going to have to seriously think about this posibility now.
My current favorite word is 'twigging', which I'm not sure I didn't make up. It means to be jarringly and nonsensically reminded of something by something else. Usage: I kept twigging onto Heinlein's Citizen of the Galaxy while watching that movie. (Points to anyone who can guess where that example came from. Hint: it was MST3K'd.)
