A certain white-haired freak ([livejournal.com profile] corivax) is arranging for a 1250 pound, cast iron, 1887 platen press to be shipped here as a Christmas present. Not only will we get to teach ourselves letterpress techniques, we'll have hours of refurbishing to do first. The thing is a work of art from the height of the industrial revolution, before electricity and internal combustion ruined everything. It's going to be awesome.

Does anyone in the Seattle area have a loading dock I could borrow? If the shipping company can't do residential delivery we'll need a loading dock. The press is coming on a pallet, and I would be able to come get it in a pickup truck the same day as delivery. (I haven't exactly figured out how to get it from the pickup truck to my garage, but one thing at a time.)
