Ten things

I can't resist, even if I do have to be crazy about phrasing things just right to exclude my standard partners in crime...

1. Coded in freefall.


2. Snuck into the Louvre.


3. Wrote a program to keep track of my pants.


4. Started a big meme (spiritrover).


5. Grew up in an underground house.


6. Wrote, filmed and edited a 10 minute movie in 48 hours. Three times.


7. Drove to the Arctic Circle (and watched corivax dance barefoot there).


8. Built a forge out of a propane tank in order to teach myself blacksmithing.


9. Attended a combined 5th and 6th grade class that had just 10 kids in it. (And three of us shared a first name.) (corivax is close enough.)


10. Seriously explored the possibility of amateur genetic engineering.


11. Canvassed nude for clean water. (At a nude beach, but still.)

#2: when it was open, or when it was closed?

Open. This was 8th grade. No one else in the group had been particularly wild about the Louvre, so I had come by myself, after hitting the Musee Rodin. My first real experience being on my own in a big city. I had forgotten to bring my passport, so I had paid full price to get in. And then I had accidentally left, not realizing that the two main wings were connected directly, so I was going to have to pay full price AGAIN. As I stood there by the enterance, deeply annoyed, a large school group came along. They were only slightly younger than me. Without really thinking about it, I joined the group, walked in with them, and split off immediately afterwords. I have no idea how I had the nerve. But it was completely From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, and I was highly pleased.

i haven't done any of these things! which would i most like to do? let's see... it would be seriously cool to go to the arctic circle and watch someone i love dance barefoot :) i mean, iainzard goes out in rocky mountain blizzards in his bare feet to get the paper, but that's not entirely the same thing :)

Well, the robot code wasn't working all that well for the flight 2 years ago. So I had emacs open over X over the wireless connection, hacking on the code during parabolas. Frantic, but fun. Would have been more fun if it had done any good, of course.

FYI, typing is enough to push you away from the keyboard in freefall.

Not the best pic, but you can the railing on the roof. There used to be grass up there, but the soil was so thin it couldn't stay wet enough. Now it's just dead scrub up there.

Hrm, I'm not seeing it immediately. I think I wrote it on the GNUbot laptop, and I probably never bothered to transfer it off. Might still be on there.

See, I wanted to keep track of how many times I had worn jeans between washings, to optimize usage. But after writing it I realized it would be a lot easier to just wear them all three times in a row and move on to the next pair. Oh well.

Well, I built a propane forge after learning to blacksmith so that I could get away with it in Seattle. I claim #8. :-)
