I had a wonderful talk last night with a very devout Christian, a member of the Lutheran church I sing at ... and just about as liberal as you or me. He hates the Evangelical-Christian, impose-your-morality-on-others viewpoint and finds it completely unChristian and hypocritical. He had eloquent expositions of his reasons for this and theories about what could be done. (Alas...nothing easy.) If you'd like to talk about it this weekend we can.

So: a blanket statement about "going to church" = unthinking Republican doesn't fly. It probably makes a lot of difference, though, what kind of church you go to, and where.
