I'm stuck in the basement because trick-or-treaters have been sighted and we don't have any candy. So I'm being all productive instead. It gave me a good excuse to get around to several VJ improvements I've been putting off.

A couple weeks ago I added directory support to the VJ, which makes browsing a lot nicer. But the VJ agent wasn't dropping the directory from the filename, so it kept saying things like 'You have selected A Bit of Fry & Laurie A Bit of Fry & Laurie', which was annoying. Fixed.

It had slowly dawned on me that the VJ only ever said two things when introducing a file: 'You have selected FILE.' and 'Next up is FILE.' Which was odd, since the VJPHRASE target in my PhraseServer context free grammar was much more complicated than that. So I looked at that, and found a little bug that made it ignore certain entries. Fixed.

The VJ has never been as stable as I would like. It's a VB app that is using Real Media, Windows Media and Quicktime controls -- stability just isn't in the cards for it. Whenever it freezes, I have to run downstairs and restart it. Annoying and embarrassing. So I finally got around to creating a second little daemon that exists just to kill the VJ and restart it. I call it 'CIA' -- it replaces unfriendly regimes for me. Now you just have to click a link on the VJ control page whenever something goes wrong. Fixed.
